New Year's Eve fireworks will go ahead despite city's likely total fire ban
UPDATE 3.50pm: MELBOURNE Lord Mayor Robert Doyle says the city's $2.6 million fireworks spectacular will still go ahead on New Year's Eve, despite predictions of 32 degree temperatures.
As part of the celebrations, the city's iconic buildings will play a key role, and the theme of gold will be used to hark back to the gold rush era which spawned their creation.
